Make the perfect tile choice
Ceramic and Porcelain Tile
Tiles are perfect for rooms such as kitchens and bathrooms because they give you the ability to concentrate on design without sacrificing moisture resistance. For most indoor areas, ceramic tile is recommended. But, for outdoor or other areas with really high levels of moisture, porcelain tile is the best bet. We at Carpet One El Paso have a great selection of ceramic and porcelain tiles from Daltile, Interceramic, and Happy Floors, so stop by today!
Ceramic tile is considered a catch-all term because there are so many different shapes, sizes, and colors available. It is both water and heat resistant, so it is suitable for kitchen and bathroom floors. Ceramic floor tiles are also thick enough to deal with foot traffic and most potential drops. Additionally, ceramic tile will not fade or stain over time, so it does well to maintain its looks. But, because ceramic tile is not totally water resistant and may crack in changing temperatures, it’s not suitable for outdoor use.
For a different look and extra protection, ceramic tile can be glazed. Glaze adds additional color and shine to tile, but it can be transparent as well. Glaze also protects against water and stains to add more durability.
Porcelain tile is better for outdoor use because it is denser, more water resistant, and stronger. As a result, porcelain is better suited for changing weather conditions. Porcelain also is the best option for high moisture areas such as showers, since it is more water resistant than ceramic. Like ceramic tile, porcelain tile can be glazed, but it usually is best unglazed when outside or in commercial areas. Unglazed tile is more slip resistant and does not show wear, so it is practical for areas with high foot traffic.
